On the way to Las Vegas for some work, I stopped off at the Calico Ghost Town in California.  I knew it would be somewhat 'touristy', but it was more than I imagined since it had been rebuilt/restored by Walter Knott, founder of Knott's Berry Farm.

Located in the Mohave Desert, Calico is still probably a good example of what a mining town looked like in the late 1800s.  Calico was a silver mine (made famous by the Maggie Mine and King Silver mine.  Now owned by the county, the Calico Ghost town is an interesting stop, but probably not worthy as a destination all by itself.
