| Savannah Savannah is an old historic southern city that has played an important part of American history. As one of America's oldest cities, it has seen numerous battles ranging from the Spanish and English from the earliest days of colonization and then wars with England and even the Civil War. Once the main cotton export port, Savannah saw a period of decline that took years to overcome. But give the city leaders of Savannah some credit: today Savannah's historic downtown is vibrant and fun and a worthy destination. That isn't to say that Savannah still doesn't have work to do to help some of the poor in the city, but the downtown river front with its new convention center and other improvements makes this a jewel of the south. |
