The schedule finally permitted us to run for Dan's first SCCA race.  The Moore Cadillac Patroit Games races were held on July 6/7 at Summit Point.  This weekend meant running with the big boys in GT-1:  we're talking guys with 900HP and $65,000 engines versus our little eVisory Spec Cobra running with 225HP.  The car had just gotten a new suspension installed from Factory Five.  Best of all, Dan hadn't driven hard in a race since last fall.  (VIR meant babying the car to take to California, California had rain and crazies, and Kershaw had car trouble.)  It was certain to be an interesting weekend!

Qualifying wasn't great, but Dan was learning the new set-up, but it was clear that running with GT-1 wasn't going to be easy.  Oh well, the car was easily the most popular car at the track:  some people didn't want us to race because they were afraid it would mess up how our car looks!

Our race was the first one on Sunday morning.   Dan started from the 26th overall position.  The mission:  move up a few places, improve those lap times, and beat the GT-1 Panoz starting in 25th postion!  Dan got a great jump on the start, only to have the start waved off.  After a good start Dan began picking his way through traffic and got in front of the Panoz.  Since Dan was still competing on his rookie permit (a provisional starter), he kept it conservative and just focused on trying to stay out of a trouble.  A couple of moves learned in the Fall driver's school kept him moving up through the pack.  When it was all over, we thought it was a very respectable fourth place finish.  As it turns out, some of the leaders had problems and Dan ended up with and impressive - if very lucky - second place finish!  Best of all, Dan set a new personal best laptime for Summit Point.
