Vintage Racing at VIR

Replicas are rarely permitted to run with the historic race groups, but the vintage association HSR permitted us to be the first to run at our beloved track of VIR.  The rules were a little different in that it is based on time, not actual finishing position.  Which means it doesn't really play to Dan or the Cobra's strengths.  Unfortunately, we ended up with some rare mechanical problems (overheating that led to blown headgasket) that didn't let us challenge for the overall win.  Not that it would have mattered:  a Formula 3000 (feeder series to Formula 1) and incredible Porsche were unbelievably fast.  Still, we won the Sports Modified class (ahem, we were the only car entered) and finished a semi-respectable sixth overall.  Four of the cars were faster than our track record, so we did about as well as we could have hoped.  Here's a tiny video!

Some of the cars were incredible.  An original 427 Cobra.  A Ferrari Enzo.  A Panoz LMP prototype from LeMans.  The people were nice (the race and HSR people were exceptionally nice).  The racing wasn't really competitive, but it was fun to see the cars and play on the track!
