All year we had planned to help Steve Marcus when he brought the Pen Pals BMW to VIR. A last minute invitation from our friends at American Iron had us bringing the FedDS.org Cobra instead. After three near disasterous weekends at VIR this year the big question was would our luck change. The answer was no.
As part of our planning program for the national championships in Vegas, we wanted this weekend to focus on getting ready. We planned to test our new engine but it kept overheating. We limped around for a total of 5 (very expensive) laps over three days. Still it was fun to be a part of a big race weekend and the guys from American Iron could not have been nicer. Throw in the regular NASA crowd and you are talking one great group.
I really felt bad that I couldn't
actually race: probably 40 people came up to me to say they were pulling
for me. Well, maybe the car. With the hillsides full of people all I
could do was offer a weak wave as I limped back to the pits. It's an ugly
feeling when you know the car is easily capable of running in the top half of
the field. Sigh.
One final note: Jon Felton kindly worked the camera this weekend and the 59 pages of pictures you see here are thanks to him. Blame/praise him for the extra pictures of girls.
Don't forget to see the American Iron trophy pics.
