Saturday morning started with snow, but one the ride over to the track from the
hotel you could hear the faint "tap tap tap" as the rain turned to sleet and hit
the windshield. By the time the eVisory Cobra was out of the trailer, there was
already a faint dusting of unexpected snow. Dan was in the first group out on
the track. Only six cars went out for practice, but Dan had to go out since he
had never seen the track before - and most of the top competitors had a full
practice day on Friday. The snow and slush meant that Dan crawled around the
track for a grand total of three laps. That was the extent of trying to drive
for anyone as the track quickly was covered by up to 5" of snow.
Getting out wasn't possible either: the big
dually tow truck got truck on the road back to the track and couldn't even get
under the trailer. On Sunday it finally stopped snowing, but it still took a
tractor to get the trailer out to a place where the truck could pull it.
NASA made a valiant attempt to go racing on Sunday and people took their trucks
out in an attempt to dry the racing line and move some of the snow and water.
The good news is that the truck was reasonably fast: the bad news is that
conditions still didn't make it safe to race the Cobra. The bad news is
that the truck made a lot more laps than the race car. Siggh.
Racing certainly brings it's share of frustrations and unexpected events: being black flagged for snow isn't one of them.
By the way, several of these pics
