It was round 2 for the points races for both Bobbie and Dan at Kershaw's Carolina Motorsports Park. Bobbie had some handling problems on Saturday and didn't run particular strong as she finished second to last despite a best lap within 2.9 seconds of the second place car. Sunday featured pouring rain and she qualified an impressive 7th (her best ever), but couldn't see and decided to park her car just halfway through the race.
Dan had heating problems with the new Cobra and had to limp around the track to collect points on Saturday despite being fast in practice and taking the lead early in the race. On Sunday, it was back to the red car and pouring rain. This time we had no rain tires and Dan was lucky to qualify in second place - but a whopping 16 seconds behind the leader on rain tires. The heavy rain may have caused problems with the electrical system and Dan ended up with the causing missing on some cylinders. Still, he was lucky to hold on to third and pick up some valuable points.
Staying the hunt for points meant that we ended up moving up in the rankings. Now in second place for the season standings, Dan and Harry are just 10 points out of first place and Bobbie moved into a tie for 11th place. This was one of those weekends that we may look back and see as a key. It wasn't particularly fun and we didn't get the finishes we wanted despite driving pretty well. But we got points for the championship and did what we needed. Good showing for Team Elam!
