We took the Cobra to Summit Point for the SCCA MARRS VII race.  After a really strong outing the last time we ran, it was clear that this race would be more difficult.  Each car in the strong GT-1 field was running lap times faster than the track record for our car.   Great.  This was not looking like a cake walk.

Oh well!  Fortunately we had friends come to keep us company!  Check out Rob Weatherbie's stunning orange Cobra.  Al and Luel Warren came out help and the Spruills joined us on Sunday.  Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures on Sunday.

Our race was delayed due to a major accident with Trey Dillard who was leading the race when he crashed his Spec Racer Ford.  He was conscious when the helicopter took him away being cut from his car.  Hopefully he is ok.

The race started with a terrific jump where I picked up five spots in less than a quarter of a lap.  I was running down a faster car in another class when the front tires stopped gripping.  It took several laps for them to cool down as I fought to keep the car under control - and let cars in other classes pass me.  At the end of the race I had a little tire grip, but it was too little, too late as I tried to run down one last car.  It was a frustrating race since some of the driving I did was the best racing I have ever done.  This time I just didn't have the car to back up my hopes.  I ended up 5th in class, but did take satisfaction in finishing ahead of the former NASCAR Winston-Cup car.
